Go into the Configuration manager with JAWSKey+6, (press ctrl+shift+d if you 
want to change the default also); then alt+s for Set Options, t for Text 
Options.  You land on "Filter Repeated Characters" and there is a group of 
six radiobuttons.  Choose 6 of 6 if you want a count of repeated characters; 
ok the change by tabbing to and pressing enter on OK, and agree to save when 
exiting.

I need know the number of X in "XXXXXXXXXX". But my jaws only read 3 Xs, do 
I have to change some setting to make jaws read all Xs?
