Sounds like you gave it a good trial. It is logical that one scanner would need to be the default, but there must have been a serious conflict between the scanner softwares for there to be a problem beyond that.

One can use a multi-function printer on a system, after all, that's what they're built for, computers and them being all in ones. I would seriously doubt the person who gave you that advice. In most cases, if not in all cases, the unit will perform what ever task you ask it to perform. Keep in mind this does not count any possible task you set it by pressing any buttons on it, or by using it's software, but if you have a MFC connected to your printer, and you ask it to print something, followed by a scan of some kind, it should do so no problem. Now that I think about it, it may be that you're referring to performing tasks at the same time, to use my example above, printing something and scanning it at the same instance, in which case, that person is right, this cannot be done, however, this is not the failing of the computer, it is a failing of the MFC, because the circuits simply don't have the capacity to handle more than one job at the same time.
