I did do all of that save the last part regarding Jaws here.
I had those same steps from David Whitehead post when this happened the last
time and I did the first part of your message after doing the run dialogue
sndvol32 part, but still no sounds or speech.
I seem to recall we had to do a system restore to bring it all back sigh.

did not complete the sequence. If you have no sound (and that is separate
from JAWS No Speech): In the Run dialog, type sndvol32; then tab once,
and
hit the home key to increase master Volume to 100%; and then tab once to
the
Mute All checkbox, which should be unchecked. press the spacebar to
change
its state to unchecked. perhaps now sound is restored. You can now
adjust
the volume, taking care *at all times* not to check any of the mute
checkboxes in these dialogues.
If you have sound, but not JAWS speech: To get JAWS speech, press
JAWSKey+v, and then the end key, and then the enter key. that's a quick
way.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] No Speech
Hello,
We seem to have encountered once again Allen Dunbar has managed somehow to
not have any speech on his computer again...
I was smart this time and saved the instructions from the time before and
have tried the Run command typing the, sndvol32 and enter, but still
nothing..
Now is there any way at all to do a system's restore without speech?
Thanks,
Patricia
