Does you/he use a sound recording program, or any other program that would 
take over the sounds?  If this is going to be a frequent occurrence, you 
might need to become acquainted with whatever the cause of this situation 
is.  otherwise, you will need sight to system-restore.

I did do all of that save the last part regarding Jaws here.
I had those same steps from David Whitehead post when this happened the last
time and I did the first part of your message after doing the run dialogue
sndvol32 part, but still no sounds or speech.
I seem to recall we had to do a system restore to bring it all back sigh.
