Flor, I've done this, as well as checking the box that tells JAWS to keep
forms mode off when a new page loads.

Hi,
you say: "I've made sure JAWS is set up to keep forms mode off until I
turn it on
manually ..."
How? Have you disabled AutoForms Mode in the Internet Explorer Config
manager? Then try turning it off in the default. For my purposes,
AutoForms Mode is too much of a gimmick, most of the time.

Hi, all.
I have a similar problem as the one reported below.
I've been using JAWS 10 latest update with IE 8 and XP Home for several
weeks and what I've noticed the most is that forms mode will turn on as
a
page is opening without JAWS indicating it is on. This makes IE seem
sluggish because JAWS never reads the contents of the web page.
Checking the status line while the page is loading, I get the same
message
about 1 item left, but the page never begins reading on its own. If I
try
reading line by line I don't get any information except for the
occasional
page title.
The work around I'm currently using for this is to press insert Z to
turn
forms mode off and then press it again to reactivate the virtual cursor.
I here the indication that forms mode is off. Then I press the key
combo
again and hear JAWS say forms mode on, auto, forms mode off.
This seems to correct the problem, but it is frustrating as it does this
on
most of the sites I use several times a day and JAWS seems to
spontaneously
go into forms mode on some sites for no discernable reason whether I'm
in an
edit field or not. The page doesn't appear to be refreshing, so I don't
know what's causing any of this behavior.
I've also had the same thing happen in OE while reading mail in HTML.
If I
click on a link in OE, it's a safe bet that the page will load with
forms
mode already on and I'll need to do the steps above.
I've made sure JAWS is set up to keep forms mode off until I turn it on
manually, and I've made sure that JAWS is set to use the virtual cursor
in
HTML documents.
My inferiority complex is not as good as yours.

Any extraneous toolbars? Uncheck 'lock the toolbars' and see if there
are. then remove any if not needed.

Just searched archives and tried Chris's suggestion of checking
compatibility mode under the Tools menu. No difference. I get "1 item
remaining..." forever, and if I try a refresh the page starts counting
down
more and more slowly but never comes up. Perhaps IE8 is happier on
VISTA
machines or something, but it's the pits on this XP Pro system!
BTW- The new Help page (link at bottom of messages) is so nicely
organized
and the archive search is really nice now. Thanks to administrators
or
whomever worked on this!!

Have been trying to figure out whether internet page downloads are
suddenly
sluggish or stall completely because I've changed to IE8 or what.
Also,
sometimes closing down one web page shuts down IE8 completely. A
friend
reports similar problems. Were these the same reasons which initially
caused some of you to uninstall IE8?
If you uninstall IE8, does IE7 work properly or did you have to do any
kind
of re-install to get it working as before?
Thanks much for any insights/info.
Cher
