It updates itself every day. You will get a message where avast says, 'your files have been updated'. chrissy

I have it running but am now wondering about updates. Since this is the free version, do I need to update it myself once a week or so, or does this update definitions regularly? And is it normal for it to take a very long time to do a thorough scan? I think this is what it's set on, and it barely moves percentage-wise and has so far taken about an hour. I have 2 hard drives in here so maybe that's the norm but just wanted to know. Thanks again.
