Chris, If I'm going to keep a USB device connected, I do not "safely eject" it prior to logging off, restarting , or shutting down. I believe this feature is only relevant if one wishes to unplug an item during a current Window's session. I cannot say this with 100% assuredness but pretty close. I have never had any problems keeping a USB item plugged in while shutting down etc, but I have lost data and corrupted a flash drive by just unplugging it during a Window's session with out using the safely remove hardware option. Hope this helps Al -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]on Behalf Of Chris Hallsworth Sent: Wednesday, November 11, 2009 5:43 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Unplugging external drives What about shutting down/restarting/log off the computer? Does that do what the safely remove hardware would do but in addition do the appropriate action you took? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Leonard Morris Sent: 11 November 2009 8:38 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Unplugging external drives I don't see a question related to your subject line. However, but the rule of thumb is you should always use "safely remove hardware" located in the system tray prior to disconnecting most USB external devices. I learned this the hard way because I crashed my Ipod a couple of years ago by just snatching it out of the computer. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Russ Hubley" <[email protected]> To: "Jaws users" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 11, 2009 11:19 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Unplugging external drives > Hi everyone, > I have been using flash drives on my personal computers and my school > district computers for yearrs and have had no problem whatsoever.
