My name's Flor, not flora, and I'm male. (The other name implies
female.)
'Supposedly' is perhaps the apposite word. Whichever, , it may be
simpler to just unhide inactive icons in the system Tray because the
customization could be remembering items you had rather than items you
now have. I have no items I shouldn't have in my System tray.

Nice try, Flora. But I have about 20 "phantom" icons in the System
Tray List affiliated with programs that were uninstalled with Revo
Uninstaller, which supposedly does a more thorough job of removing
program components than the Add/Remove Programs option on the Control
Panel. None of these phantom or leftover icons have corresponding
entries listed on the Processes page of Windows Task Manager.

There are some programs that have entries in msconfig - which can
mean that, if the program was still running in the background when
you 'uninstalled' it, it wasn't completely removed. You would
therefore need to completely close such a program before removing it.
The alt+ctrl+del menu (End Program menu) is a way to access such
programs, and the process you desire to close can be closed from the
list of processes there by arrowing to and then tabbing to and
entering on the end Process button. (make sure that you have
identified the process you are ending when doing this.)
So, if an uninstalled program wasn't completely uninstalled, you
could reinstall it and then remove it, properly by, also,
implementing the steps i have indicated above.

I did a little research, and discovered that there is really no easy
way to remove leftover or duplicate icons from the System Tray.
While deleting desktop icons is fairly simple, deleting trace System
Tray icons for programs you no longer have installed on your PC
involves fooling around with the registry. So the best way to deal
with these "ghost" icons is to just leave them alone.

Hi Flor,
Thank you sir, for your response. The Icons in the system tray are
no
problem at all. I was just curious if there was a way to stop the
Icons
from being there if a person didn't want them in the sys tray and
curiosity
also pushed me over the edge, to wonder if there was a way to
eliminate
multiple listings in the customize list realizing that I could
recustomize
the Icons but, the curiosity is if they could be deleted somehow.
I
couldn't find a way to do so. Thanks again, take care.

Hi Mike,
re-customize those icons you don't want shown.
What is the problem with having a 'you have new email' icon in your
system Tray, anyway? It goes away after a bit. I prefer to have
hide
inactive icons unchecked, and things are working normally so that I
can
work with any program there should the the need arise. (Each
program
there normally occurs only once under those settings. if it occurs
more
than once, as on occasion, I just close one of the instances of it
and
that tends to fix it.)

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Sidebar to stopping Email icon in system tray
Hi All,
Thanks again Gerald & David for the great steps/information but,
after
getting into the customize notification tray to make the settings
changes I
noticed that there were icons in there that are not on my computer
anymore
or for instance, Jaws for windows, NVDA,& Super Anti Spuyware are
in
the
list multiple times. Does anyone know a way to remove the
multiple
listings
of particular icons? All help will be graciously appreciated.
Thanks
again. Take care.
Mike
