I think in vista when you shift-tabbed from the listview of the desktop you would land on the quick launch right? So windows 7 just took the quick launch away?

I guess there is an icon or graphic in this area that will minimize all windows to show the Desktop. Since you did not have any windows covering the Desktop, this would probably have no effect.
