Hi Darrin.
Thanks for your help. If i use the automatically split option, is there
any way of goldwave automatically detecting pauses and splitting based
on when there is a pause? or would i have to use the manual procedure
you described?

Mo,
This could easily and quickly be done with GoldWave. Goldwave will either
automatically split the file into segments whose lengths you specify
(regardless of what's happening at the split point) or you can manually go in
and drop que points where you want the file split. This is pretty quick and
easy since you can jump to any part of the file quickly. For example, if you
wanted the file split up into roughly thirty minute segments, you could simply
jumt to, say, 29 minutes and thirty seconds and start listening, dropping your
que point during a pause or quiet part of the file. Then repeate at 59:30,
1:29:30, etc.
I did this for a two and a half hour lecture series I recorded and managed to
get the entire lecture split into approximately 5 minute segments in somewhat
less than an hour. Another nice feature of GoldWave is that you can name your
que points and tell the program to split the file at the que points and use the
que point names as the split file names.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MP3 splitter?
Hi All.
I'm looking for a program that will convert a long MP3 file, say 8 hours
in to manageable segments. Would goldwave do this? I want something
ideally that will detect pauses and split based on when a pause occurs
so for example if i'm converting it in to half hour sections and there's
a pause after 30 minutes and 3 seconds, it'll split where the pause is
and not in the middle of a word. does anything like this exist and
that's accessible? I don't mind using the jaws curser.
Best,
Mo.
