Well, if nothing else you've made me smile. Ok, as I said, the setting should be in the control pannel, which can be found both in the start menu as well as the all-programs menu. Once there you should be able to set WordPad as your default Word-Processor/editor. I am still baffled by Word trying to open your TXT files, but perhaps if your system is quite old and a bit sluggish in general, that may be the Occam's Razor, so to speak. Yes, Melissa, I have XP as my OS and am using Jaws 11. My CPU is an old HP desk model which has served well for some years and is an old friend. Patience, I have learned that in practicing law for 37 years and in getting old.
