Hi all,
It's so great to see that I was happy to help somebody who had a major problem with a piece of software. I'm glad it's working for you now. I thought all along that compatibility was the cause here. Once again my technical skills has paid off. Slightly off topic here I think, but for all TR users or those who are looking into it I may be starting a list devoted to this highly recommended program. Stay tuned.

Did u select only , repeat only, the '....Kernel filter...' driver
during installation? If u do that and uncheck the 'user mode' and the
'kernel driver' then the software mode should work just fine.

Well Total Recorder did not solve my direct recording is from the
sound card vs. microphone. In fact, when I tried to use the software
option in total recorder 6.1 I got the following error message:

Recording in Software mode is not possible because of certain
qualities of your sound board or the software you have installed for
the sound board.

Prior to upgrading from XP to Windows Seven this was never a problem.
On the Web I read that some types of direct recording from the sound
card has been removed from Windows Seven and Vista. Glad I have a
Netbook that still has XP. I will put GoldWave and Total Recorder on
there and hopefully I should be good to go.
