Hello Teresa, I am wondering if using JAWS 12 with the RC version of Internet Explorer 9 beta has improved the accessibility to the Charter site. I remember having the same kind of problems that you have experienced when I used IE 8. The site was quite inaccessible. It does seem to be working fine for me now.
One site that is quite easy to navigate that you can retrieve your Charter E-mail from is www.e-mailanywhere.com The site definitely works well with IE 9 and JAWS 12, but you will need to check it out to see if it does with IE 8. Here are some steps that you can follow when you get to the site: Go to www.e-mailanywhere.com When the page loads, JAWS fight go into forms mode. If so then type in your Email address. Otherwise, find the edit box for your E-mail address. Use CTRL+home to go to the top of the page and press E to move to the first edit box on the page. If JAWS does not go into forms mode then press enter key on the edit box. You should hear the sound of JAWS going into and out of forms mode unless it has been turned off. Type in your Email address. Tab to the password box and fill it in. Tab to the next control, which says something like "just enter your full e-mail address and password to log in" and press enter key. If you move to the top of the page that comes up and use down arrow a couple of times, the first two links are for the inbox and composing messages. Press enter key on the inbox link if you want to read your messages in that folder. If there are messages in the inbox use X to move message to message. Use down arrow key from each checkbox to find the link to follow that will open the message. The subject line will be the link to follow. If you arrow down past the link before pressing enter key on it, you will find out who sent the message. You can also use the "check mail" link to check for new messages and then use the inbox link to go to where the new messages will be. You can list links using insert f7 and press enter key on the link to go to the page that the link is referencing. You might also just want to use down arrow to find the links or use the tab key and press enter on the link you want. The site is not real cluttered so that my be something you prefer to do. You can check individual checkboxes using the spacebar. There is also a link for selecting all messages. After selecting messages, you can do such things as move them to the trash where you can get rid of them. Press B to find the "move" button. If you want to move them to a different folder, then before using the move button, press C to move to the combo box containing the possible folders for the selected messages. You can press Alt+down arrow after moving to the combo box and then use down arrow key to find the folder you want to move messages to, although, if you want to move them to the trash you don't have to use the combo box. The trash folder is the default, so after selecting messages, use B to move to the "move" button and press spacebar. After moving messages to trash, you will get a button that can be used to empty trash. Press B until you find the button and press enter key on it if you want the trash emptied. You will also get a button for creating folders. Use the "compose" button near the top of the site to start a new message. If JAWS does not go into forms mode in the To field automatically then use E from the top of the page and press enter key to go into forms mode on the first edit box. It will be the To control. After typing in the To field use tab key to the subject edit box and type in the subject. Use tab key again and you will first find a link for "CC" but just use tab again to move to the edit box where you can type in recipients' names if you want to send copies to people. Using tab key again moves to the link for BCC and tabbing one more time goes to the edit box for BCC (blind carbon copy). Use that edit box if you want someone to get a copy without other recipients' knowing. Use tab again and you will find your Email address filled in as the return address. Use tab again and you will get a button for attaching files. Continue using tab key until the message edit box is found. Type in your message. When finished typing in your message, use tab key until the send button is found and press spacebar. When the next page loads after you send the message, go to the top of the page using CTRL+home key. Press N twice and you should find the confirmation of the message being sent. Use down arrow to read the confirmation. The links for going to the inbox, checking mail or composing are available on each page of the domain as far as I could tell. You can also set up an account in your Outlook Express for your Charter mail, although, I have had problems at times trying to send mail when not connected to Charter's cable service. The incoming has always worked well for me though. Take care. I have XP with Outlook Express on my home computer and Windows 7 on my laptop. I am trying to retrieve my Charter E-mail with my laptop when traveling. I appreciate the help. I was able to get to the step with the x. When I press x it says there are no check boxes. I called Freedom Scientific and she spent quite a bit of time on the same page, but without success. We can eventually get to the E-mail and read them, but it is a difficult process. Is there a better E-mail service or some way of easily retrieving E-mail while traveling? I am not a very computer literate person, so I need something quite simple. The person at Freedom Scientific recommended Live, but said it was a difficult process to set it up. Would I be able to retrieve my Charter E-mail through Live or is it an E-mail server? Any further help or suggestions you could give would be greatly appreciaited.
