It would seem that the eject option at least for me only applies to flash drives and not to external hard drives. I don't have anything called elements either, so my best guess would be to reboot your system when you wish to disconnect your USB drive.

If memory serves me correctly I have something up on the tips and tricks page covering putting the safely remove hardware icon back in the system tray.

Thank you David. I went in to Windows Explorer and selected the Elements drive and under application key and found open and properties but no eject. Will check again. Under Windows Explorer it said Elements closed. I thought I should leave it closed, is that correct?
