Yeah, mine (version 13) says V. But, if you read it by ascii character, it
should say something like 8730.

When I do the, Alt + 251 keystroke, Jaws reads U circumflex. Is that what
Jaws will read but, it's actually a checkmark / square root symbol? Thank

You're right, you enable numpad then hold down the alt key and type 251.
