The Maltese cross is WingDing symbol no. 88. No, I do not have a list of symbols. Such a thing would be great! I remember that in WordPerfect version 5.1, you could pick from hundreds of symbols, all of which were clearly identified by JAWS, largely because there text name was written next to the symbol, e.g., plus or minus, greater than or equal to, large hollow bullet, etc. Oh, the good old days.
What I would like to see in JAWS is a dialogue box in which you could enter the value of the character in hex and then the text label you would like to be spoken when JAWS encounters the symbol. An optional JAWS hot key option would also be nice that would assign a key combination to that symbol to make it easier to enter at the insertion point. Finally, a complete as possible list of all symbols, complete with hex values and textual names would be great, especially if it were in the form of a drop-down list that you could pick from to add them to the JAWS symbols list.
