A Maltese cross is a cross, e.g., with a vertical bar being crossed at
right angles with a horizontal bar. An X consists of two diagonal lines
crossing. Additionally, a Maltese cross sort of looks like a propeller.
In other words, the outer ends of the bars are wider than the parts of the
bars that cross in the middle.

Does it differ much from capital X?

The Maltese cross is WingDing symbol no. 88.

No, I do not have a list of symbols. Such a thing would be great! I
remember that in WordPerfect version 5.1, you could pick from hundreds
of
symbols, all of which were clearly identified by JAWS, largely because
there text name was written next to the symbol, e.g., plus or minus,
greater than or equal to, large hollow bullet, etc. Oh, the good old
days.

What I would like to see in JAWS is a dialogue box in which you could
enter the value of the character in hex and then the text label you
would
like to be spoken when JAWS encounters the symbol. An optional JAWS hot
key option would also be nice that would assign a key combination to
that
symbol to make it easier to enter at the insertion point. Finally, a
complete as possible list of all symbols, complete with hex values and
textual names would be great, especially if it were in the form of a
drop-down list that you could pick from to add them to the JAWS symbols
list.

Ascii codes for such items?

I had a fairly extensive list at one time, including some odd ones most
folks didn't know of, but lost it in a computer crash years ago (the one
that taught me a lesson about backups, secondary hard drives, external
drives and the value of a network computer for the sole provided job of
carrying a secondary copy of everything on ones main computers!)

but when I found my paper listing of the sight, I found it was among the
land of "for sale domain names" and the list of characters was gone !

so anyone who has a good list source please pass it along

Here, Here! In my job, I have to type the Maltese Cross symbol all the
time and would love to add it to the list (the top of the list,
actually).

Subject: [JAWS-Users] suggestion for the symnbols dialog

Hi all

Something I would like to suggest as a new feature for the symbols
dialog
[jaws ke plus 4].

Although this dialog already contains quite a few of the most commonly
used
symbols, it would be very nice indeed if one could add your own special
symbols to this list. My home language uses quite a few symbols which
are
not part of that list. Would be wonderful to be able to add them.

I have no idea how easy this would be to implement!!
