I could not find it.
I was in "My Docs" and opened up my received files and it was empty.
Then, I went to my C drive and found "my downloads" but the image was not
there.
Any other thoughts on where I could look?
For some reason, I don't think the download went through. I tried it twice.
Thanks.

Try looking in download folder. You have to install it to see it in other
places.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I found a web site that had image for windows with a free 30 day trial.
http://download.cnet.com/Image-for-Windows/3000-2242_4-10149389.html
I clicked on the download link and after it announced 100 % there was no
other information on what to do.
I could not find the program in my docs or programs.
How would I know if I actually downloaded it?

Thanks for the info.
What program do you recommend to take an image for back up?
By the way, when the problem began, my sighted wife said the mouse would
not work as well as the keyboard.
I had not made any changes to the configuration manager prior to the
problem.
Interestingly, after rebooting, Microsoft ran a "check disc"?
Thanks again.

Ok, lets start with selective startup. There's nothing wrong with
using selective startup, that's what I do to keep extra programs that
aren't necessary from loading.
I can't figure out why you said the keyboard wasn't working, but I can
educatedly guess why Jaws wasn't working. I'll bet somehow you
unchecked the REaltech sound manager from loading by mistake. That
will kill sound every time after Windows loads. So the bottom line,
when you go through the startup list, make sure you know which programs
you are unchecking so you don't dump one that might be system critical,
as the sound manager is for us, and of course, as an anti-virus program
is.
As to your second question, your Outlook Express files are stored under
your documents and settings, Username, Local Settings, application
Data, Identities, alphanumeric string, Microsoft, Outlook Express
folder. Unless you have Task and Folder options set to show hidden
files, you won't see these files.
However, if you set up your backup solution to backup your Documents
and Settings folder, it will back up your OE .dbx files as well.
The other type of backup you can use of course is a program that takes
an image of your hard drive and stores it on external media. The image
will restore everything if there is a severe crash, including the
Windows System and all your installed programs. You don't have to do
image files as often, but you should back up your data in the Documents
and Settings folder more often, as that likely changes on a daily
basis.

Thanks all!! You guys really helped me on this one.
I've seemed to have gotten the computer working with your help.
To complete, I went in to msconfig and noticed that "selective" start
was checked. My other options were "normal" and one other one.
What should be checked?
That computer is XP home.
My second computer is XP pro and when I checked , all 3 options said
"checked".
The main computer would only allow one option to be checked.
Another question.
I have, I think, an external hard drive to back up information.
I am able to copy the C drive in to this but, I am not sure how or if
I can copy my e mails from Outlook Express.
When in O E, the options to copy to folders were for folders within O
E.
So, how can I back up e mails?
Thanks again for all of the help.

Rich,
First, try starting your computer and hitting the f8 key until you
get a dialog menu. Try booting into safe mode.
Check out the following microsoft article. It has several methods
you can try, but many of them are advanced.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Hi all and a big help request.
My main computer seems to have frozen.
When I physically turn it on, I hear the Microsoft tune.
JAWS never starts talking.
My sighted wife says the hour glass on the desk top is not full.
I've waited for over an hour.
I've restarted and rebooted a couple of time and nothing happens.
The keys and even the mouse do not work.
I do have an up to date McAfee.
Any thoughts on what it is and what to do?
Thanks so much.
Rich
