Hello Steven, I had the same problem with my new hp lap top and what you have 
to do is have someone with sight go into the bios and change the function keys 
to perform the functions without depressing the F/n key.  Many new laptops are 
now coming with media keys  installed in the function keys.As far as I know JFW 
will not work in the BIOS so you will need sighted help.

Does anyone have a Packard-Bell laptop.
For some reason, the function keys 1 through 10 don't seem to perform standard 
operations without holding down the FN key and I am wondering if there is a way 
to turn this feature off?
