Flor has a point, You should ask the person if they could send it to you in either a word document or text. The document is not likely produced in pdf format but rather saved in pdf format. I see that all the time these days. I think persons feel it is better to save in pdf than protecting a document. So if the person could send it to you in its native format it would likely be more usable. it depends on what is meant here by OCR.
