Damien,
Go into your aplication JAWS Configuration manager - JAWSKey+6, then
control shift d for the default (if you wish); Ptress alt-s, g for
'graphics and symbols'. there's a group of five settings. Choose from
among them. It may be that you changed the verbosity (which was once
called ANSI Character Verbosity) here. there's not a lot we can do about
the vagaries of Eloquence' synthesized pronunciation. (One person
sometimes hears the same sounds differently than another. Try the É with
other vowels and consonants, and I think the sound differs slightly
between one and another.) I suggest that you put the question on to the
vicsireland list, where more irish users may choose to give their
answers or opinions on it. If you're not on that, or not on it much,
then robbieS on irelandvipnews may want to assist.

Hi.
OK, that's fine. Maybe what is actually on the screne is a capital é so
visually it probably is ok. This occurs when I go into my Irish/English
dictionary. Here's the effected entry. " Éadrom, Light". JAWS speaks the
word correctly, but, when I arrow through the Irish word character by
character, JAWS speaks the following: "cap É" "a" "d" "r" "o" "m". I've
looked into the jdf file I created to find any entry that would cause
JAWS
to speak the letter as a capital A but can't find any.

No, you can't alter the ASCII value of a character. You might have
changed
the pronunciation of it at some stage.

JAWS 11. I don't have a problem with JAWS saying "cap" and whatever
the
letter is. I think I might have inadvertently altered the asci value
of the
character.

I would suggest you change that setting from saying CAPS to it being a
higher pitch setting (for capitals). What version of JAWS are you
using?
How-to Instructions vary according to version.

What speech synthesizer are you using? In Eloquence, I have pitch
raised for
capitals.

Hi there.
When using the character "E with an accent sign, it works fine as
long
as I don't try and capitalise it. When I type a capital "e acute"
JAWS
speaks cap a". II'm not sure if this is just a jaws problem. Can
anyone help?
Thanks
Damien."
