  On many keyboard layouts (other than the US), the right alt key stands 
  for both the alt and the control keys together, forming what's sometimes 
  known as the alt-gr key. So, if you want the United States keyboard, 
  press left-alt+shift until JAWS will oblige and say, "setting Keyboard 
  layout to US".
