I am sorry to bother everyone yet again with this issue. I messed up somehow
and no longer have my Notifications on the tab, 3 down. Instead there is one
of the unwanted items that is in my systems Tray and even when I work with
the arrows, I have lost the Notifications somewhere. Does anybody have any
idea how I can get this feature back, since I know it is important for many
functions?
And, I still do not have the one program I really want and need in my
Systems Tray because every time I reboot, I lose items. First there are 8
items and then 5 for example. This is becoming very frustrating, trust me.
I tried the directions of Rick Justice down in this message and that cannot
work even for whatever reason. I am determined to do this though.
Any and all suggestions are tremendously appreciated to regain my
Notifications on the tab and then I can start again to try to get the
program onto the Systems Tray once again.

Hi Liuda,

Here are a few more suggestions on how to get Icons to show in the system
tray.
From: CrisM

To get the icons to show up in the system tray, go to your desktop, tab down
three times till you land on Notifications or something, then press the
applications key and press enter on the customize notifications icon option.
>From there, you'll be able to move and and select which icons you want to
appear in the system tray. I had this same issue and someone on here
suggested this solution to me and it worked.

From:
Rick Justice

Open the start menu, and type the following in the search box:
notification
In the results, you should find, notification area icons, make sure that
this is selected, and press enter.
When the dialogue opens, you will probably hear Jaws say, okay button, so
just tab until you get into the list of applications.
Each time you tab, you will be on a different application, and using the up
and down arrows will select the behavior of that icon.
When you have finished making your changes, simply tab to the okay button,
and press enter to close the dialogue.

Rick Justice

Hi Ann,

You might have figured it out already, but if not, here is what you can do
in Windows 7. After setting JAWS to start in the system tray, move to the
notification area using Windows key + B. Find the Notification Chevron
button and press spacebar on it. Use up arrow key to the Customize choice
and press enter key. If focus moves away from the notification area while
using up or down arrow key, move back to it using Windows key + B, and if
necessary use the chevron button again. After using the Customize button,
use tab key several times until you find "Application file for JAWS." As
you tab across the window, you will find combo boxes for various programs.
Each combo box has three choices. In the combo box for the application file
for JAWS, use the up arrow key until the choice for showing JAWS in the
notification area is in focus. Tab to the OK button and press spacebar.
The JAWS icon should now be in the notification area.
Take care.
Brian Lee

Take care.

Thank you so very much for your helpful directions. I will try this out and
let you know how it goes. I think this is exactly what I needed though.
Thanks again for your time and expertise and have a very good day.

To clarify a bit more...

Once the Customize Notifications dialog is open, you can Tab and eventually
reach a list of applications that send notifications to the System Tray.
When you are focused on an item of interest, there are 3 options that can be
reached using the up or down arrow keys:
- Show icon an notifications
- Hide icon and notifications
- Only show notifications

To make sure that the item you want shown in the JAWS Insert + F11 System
Tray list appears, select "Show icon and notifications". I usually do not
show JAWS or NVDA in the System Tray because their menus can also be reached
by Insert + j and Insert + n, respectively.
