Thanks, at least I am not the only one who has had these problems.
I will try some different things next time...

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] printer problems and Jaws

I've had issues like this, generally something happens with an HTML file.
It causes Jaws to freeze. Either there'll be a dialog that Jaws has had a
problem and needs to close, or I'll hear nothing.

I can't restart Jaws, even doing the Jaws dump command doesn't unload Jaws
in this case.

My only solution is to load a competitor's screen-reader, alt-tab and try to
find the dialog box with the info that Jaws had encountered an error, or
alternatively, open process manager and close down Jaws.

Then, I can unload that screen-reader and restart Jaws.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] printer problems and Jaws

Hi group:

Here are two recent problems with my printer and Jaws.

Using windows 7 and latest jaws 14.

1. My printer ran out of ink while my wife was trying to print.

I used my short cut key, control+alt+j, to activate jaws.

Nothing happened, I finally had to do a cold shut down by holding the power button on the tower for five seconds.

What else can I try, to fix this problem if it happens again, without having to do a cold shutdown.

2. Again, I had a paper jam a couple weeks ago, this time with Jaws running, I brought up task manager and tried to stop the printer, but it would not do anything.

I then tried to go to restart with the windows key and right arrow and up arrow to restart, but again, it would not let me.

I finally had to do a cold shut down again.

what can I do to avoid doing a cold shut down when printer problems are happening?

I do not want to keep scarring my computer tower with these cold shut downs.

any suggestions would be appreciated...

Jim
