What model of laptop do you have? Older models had a separate switch for turning on wifi, most newer ones do it with a function key command or a touchpad bar that has different controls on it if you have media center, for example.

still have to flip the switch, feel round thre should be something close to
the button you turn your laptop on with. Mine is on the side of the botton
in back to turn on the computer.

i now have a inspiron 6000 laptop, and have never had a laptop
before, and was installed with a wireless internet card. what
keystrokes do i hit to search for an internet signal?
