It isn't a question of whether something is simply true or not here. I didn't say (nor did anyone else here) that google was 'forcing' users to install Chrome. they are, however, making it plain when you use IE8 that it is no longer supported, suggesting that you use a modern browser, and recommending the Google browser Chrome. And, i'm talking about the Google pages and Google interface in general, not just the search results numbers, and also if one is a Google group owner and GMail user as I am. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scorpio" <[email protected]>

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Unable to Change Google Search Settings

This is simply not true. I have never installed, nor used Chrome, or any other browser save for Internet Explorer for my Google searches. As I said, short of using Firefox for solving CAPTCHA's and other verification codes, all my Google searches are performed on Internet Explorer. Google has never forced me to install Chrome, or any toolbar or anything like that.

I do admit that I have set my search provider to Google when Internet Explorer asked me which search provider I wanted to choose from, so this may be one of the possible reasons for my success with Google searches.

Having said that though, when ever I get onto another computer that does not have my settings installed, I simply sign into Google, and my settings are remembered for my account, and I get the same settings as on my home computer.

I don't know if this is specific to account settings, but, as i said, once I sign in, regardless of who's computer I'm on, when I sign in to Google, my settings get reverted to my home settings of 100 results per page, and links opening up in a new window or tab.

Maybe you can try creating an account with Google, then setting your preferences. Just a thought.
