Hi
Emailed Total recorder and here is what they said.
Hello Scott Meyer,

out available to me)to the line in of my laptop computer.

If your record player has no "line-out" jack and is connected to your PC
soundcard with a "headset" jack, then most probably you will need to use a
pre-amp or connect your LP player to microphone line of your soundcard
(instead of "line-in").

IN Professional Edition hit the Listen while capturing button (Volume and
Level Panel). This button turns on/off the listen-while-capturing mode. When
the mode is on, all sound captured from the sound board is sent to your
speakers.

Scott,

Glad it is working. Not sure about hearing what you are recording as well
but if you poke around a bit in some of the settings there may be a check
box or something that says allow monitoring or something like that. This
may allow that. The other alternative I could think of, but now you are
getting into more cost, is running things through a mixer which allows
various input and output device running simultaneously.
I'll look a bit and see if I can find a way next time I'm in Total Recorder
Also, I believe you can upgrade to 8.5 at no charge, not that this will make
a difference in your current concern.
Best,
Al

Hi Allan
it worked, Thanks, do you know how to hear what is playing, plugged in
headphones in laptop and still hear nothing.
Cannot use headphone jack in cassette because that is what I am using as a
output source.
Scott

Scott,

I have Total Recorder 8.5 but I think you want to select line in as your
recording input. Do you have that in the list of choices?

Hi

I want to record a cassette onto my computer (have done this with a
desktop)using the microphone line (only output line available) put jack
into line in on Laptop and hit play and record on Total recorder( no
sound)
but when I played back recording all I hear is jaws commands. like I said I
did this with a desktop and never got jaws output in the recording and did
not have two sound cards. What setting do I need to change . It is
on
software.

Scott
