With luck, it will be possible for you to configure things yourself, in
much the following way. First, though, you need to locate something
called HWSETUP. (that is, HW Setup.) This has a number of control
dialogues that let you configure stuff on the Toshiba. I have a windows7
Toshiba Satellite laptop, so the directions i have would apply to
Windows7.
Accessing HW Setup
To run the HW Setup program, click Start -> All Programs -> TOSHIBA ->
Tools & Utilities -> HWSETUP.
The HW Setup window contains a number of tabs (General, Password,
Display, Boot Setting, Keyboard, USB, LAN and SATA) to allow specific
functions of the computer to be configured.
In addition there are also three buttons : OK, Cancel and Apply.
OK Accepts your changes and closes the HW Setup
window.
Cancel Closes the window without accepting your
changes.
Apply Accepts all your changes without closing the HW
Setup window.
Some options shown in grey are possible to confirm their status.
Now, on my Toshiba, there are a number of tab controls, one of which is
Keybpoard which is what we're interested in here. So you get to that
dialogue by right-arrow or ctrl+tab about three times. Then, tab into
the dialogue, and change the radiobutton (1 of 2) SPECIAL MODE) up to
radiobutton 2 of 2, (STANDARD F10F12 MODE. Also do the same in the next
part of the dialogue, go from radiobutton 1 of 2 up to 2 of 2, or make
sure you have that radiobutton highlighted,and OK your changes.
That's basically the procedure which I did myself to undo the Fn key
interaction with other function keys, so that they function instead in
the standard F1-F12 manner. (You will lose some of the special
functionalities. But you can undo these changes by doing the same again,
should the need arise.)

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite C55-A5355 Windows 7 15.6-Inch Laptop.

discovered to my dismay that in order to use the function keys on the

row of the keyboard you have to press the "function" key which is

left of the spacebar between the control key and the windows key.
Needless
to say it is quite awkward if not impossible to hold down that
key+jaws
key+a function key to use many jaws specific keystrokes. Before I
investigate returning the computer does anyone have any suggestions on
how
to make the function key always be set so that the keys on the
function key
row at the top of the keyboard always work as function keys so I just
have
to press the Jaws key plus the function key I need, for example
Jawskey+f10
to bring up the list of running programs? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
