I am not using Outlook Express but Outlook 2013 but this seems to be true in Word as well. If you hold down insert and press F5 twice you will hear 18 zeros. The first nine are for the RGB value for the foreground color and the second set of nine digits is for the RGB values of the background color. For a black character on a default white background the values should be nine zeros and nine digits with 255 as their value. However, if you change to the Attributes and Color scheme and use up arrow when you are on a top line of text you hear that the background is white even though insert with F5 says black on black. If you type some text and change it to the default white font color when you check the RGB values they might still indicate all black but if you select the white text and check the RGB values in the custom color box for font color the RGB is then given correctly for the white color. When using the Attributes and color scheme if I use CTRL with Home to move to the top of this message and then use up arrow key I am told that there is a white background. It does appear that the insert F5 is not working. Also with the Attributes and Color scheme if I read current line I am told there is a white background. Therefore, the reporting of nine zeros for the background white color is not right. Take care. The version of Jaws 13 thru 15 doesn't make any difference. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike B." <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 07, 2014 10:03 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Changing Background & Foreground colors Good Morning Rick, These are my current settings. With a new message open & while in the message edit field, I pressed, Alt + O, for the format menu. For style I have normal checked, Font is set on black, background is set for white, Incoding is Western European Windows, & rich text HTML is checked. This is how my emails are all supposedly set. While typing this message & I press, Insert + 5, Jaws reports black on black but, once sent & received, if I invoke the, Insert + 5, keystroke on the open / received message black on white is reported. So, I'm not sure if what Jaws reports can be trusted or not. I'll have to get my wife & other sighted people I know to keep an eye on my messages & report back to me if any of them are not readable. Any input about changing background / foreground colors in IE or Windows Explorer would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your reply. Take Care. While in an open message, choose the format menu, make sure that "rich text format" is checked and then open the background sub-menu, and then choose color from the 3 available options. No first letter navigation in the list of colors, so you will just have arrow to white, and then hit enter to check the box. I believe that the text color is determined by the O/S, and cannot be changed. Unless I don't understand what foreground and background colors that Jaws is reporting, I would say that it is reporting it incorrectly, which may be a bug in Jaws or some type of setting. It reports the same to me whether I am in a plain text or html message, and my background color is set to white for rich text format. I am running Jaws 15 latest build, Win 7. I noticed that background & foreground colors in new messages are reported as black on black. How can I or, where do I go to change this to black on white? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take Care. Mike This email was sent from my iBarstool.
