I checked my printer, because I am running Windows 8.1, and it makes no sound while the computer is booting up, but it still prints, scans, and copies. So, I guess this is how it is with Windows 8.1. Is the printer refusing to work in any other way? When the computer is already running, and I manually turn the printer off and then back on again, this is when I hear the print head resetting itself.

Mike ,
the printer is connected because I can print, I can start my printer
when the computer is all ready on but I still do not hear the sound when
turning it on or off.
this only started when I upgraded to windows 8.1
before that when I had windows 8.0 the sound was their.
Re: [JAWS-Users] printer
Anna,

Can't you hear the printer positioning the printing head when you first
start your computer? if not, then it may be that the printer is not
connected.
The easiest thing would be to try printing something and see what happens.
