Personally, I love auto numbers, especially when doing transcription because most doctors can't remember where they are, say "next" or give you some wild numbering like 1, 3, 8, 2, etc. However, it can be turned off under auto correct options in Word 2003 and maybe 2007. I am not sure just where it is in Word 2010 at the moment. If you hit enter twice it should stop numbering let's say after 4 or however long the list is. If you are doing a list like 1 and then 1 pressing tab will indent and enter will but B, to go back to Arabic numbering press backspace once the next letter comes up. It is a feature my last short job would not allow us to use, and I hated having to backtrack several lines to see what should be the next number. Between that, having to enter phrases in Autocorrect instead of having expanders set up, and the fact that half the information I needed for each report was not accessible with Jaws I might not have been terminated for issues including lack of adequate production. I worked 39 years for the hospital, they outsourced and I lasted only 6 weeks with the company they outsourced to, found myself in the hospital ICU acutely ill and part of it was stress. Now looking trying to get unemployment and either disability or early retirement.
