I have a theory about what is causing this. I think it may be a Word setting. Press Control + Shift + Asterisk (not on the keypad). See if that turns them off. If it doesn't press it again to return to where you were. I may be wrong of course, but I hope that helps.

One time I had some kind of smart tag or something and ended up calling Freedom Scientific Customer Service. The woman I talked to was really smart, got me right to what I had to do to make it stop doing that, and I believe that it was in JAWS Verbosity.
