Hi Kimber, There is an easier way to do this, but I can't remember it right now. What I did was to tab to the qat and press the applications key on each button. There is a remove option in there. Then I went into the ribbons and found the buttons I wanted to add. When you press the applications key on each button, there is an "add to quick access toolbar" option in there. there's also a custumize button at the end of the qat, but I haven't used it. Hope this helps.

For anyone who is still reading. I got a new installation of word recently, which means I lost the modifications I made to my quick access toolbar. For example, I used to be able to press control 1 and get the word count of my current document. Control 2,3,4, and 5 allowed me to accept and reject changes. I miss these functions! It's been so long since I changed the qat that I forget how to do it and googling doesn't seem to be helping very much. Could somebody give me a quick tutorial on modifying the qat in word 2013? I would be grateful.
