Hi Dacia,

For this one, you will also have to open the File tab and arrow down to Options. Then, under categories, arrow down to the Trust Center. Now, once inside of this, arrow down until you find Trust Center Settings, and open this. Once in Trust Center Settings, arrow down to Protected View, tab one time to enter the Protected View settings, and uncheck any of these settings that you do not want affecting the files that you download by having them open in protected view. When at the end of the list, simply tab once and press enter on the OK button. Lastly, do this one more time to exit the menu. Now documents that you download from the internet, an email attachment or whatever, will not open in protected view.

If you do have one to do this, focus on the file, right click and select properties. At the end of the Home tab, there will be an item called "Unblock". Click on this, then on Apply, then on OK, and the file will not open in protected view.

I have office 365. One of the things I want to change is that
documents open in protected view. This is kind of annoying. How do I
change this?

thanks,

Dacia

Yes, but 2010 is much more accessible going in. Office 2013 makes you jump

Sorry, 2010 does not seem to show this, unfortunately.

My does, under Options, Start Up Opptions, it reads "Show the Start Screen
when this application opens". There is a check box here and it is checked by default, so uncheck it to stop seeing the Backstage View and go straight to a blank document. This is not referring to the Windows 8 Start Screen. Also,
it is located near the bottom of the Start uUp Options menu.

Hi,
How do you start the desktop version of Word?

Hi,

In the File tab, arrow down to options, and select General. Tab on
down
until you find Show the start screen when this program opens, and uncheck
this box. Now select OK and now the back stage view will not come up when
you open Word, just a blank document.

As for more blind friendly versions of Word, I know that the web app
is
not very accessible, but the desktop versions should be equally accessible.

On saving, I, again, open the file tab, and arrow to Save to save
changes
to a previously saved document. Or, to save a new document and assign it a
name, press enter on the Save As option, and it will say saving features, go
down to computer, and you will get an edit field to type in the name that
you want to give to the document. Then, simply tab down to the Save button
and press enter. If you do not want to save the document to the default
folder, usually the Documents folder, then in the edit field, type in the
path to where you want the document saved, such as: c:\archives\document
name.

Hi,

I have several questions about Word 2013. I am using windows 8.1 and
JAWS 16. How do I set it so it will open a document without having me
hit enter on the backstage view when I just want a new document
opened? Also, it says is the word app is there a more blind friendly
version? Also, having trouble saving as, it brings up a save
features dialogue box and am not sure what to do.

thanks,

Dacia
