Yes, but 2010 is much more accessible going in. Office 2013 makes you jump
through some hoops, but you can clean it up with minimum time and effort.

Sorry, 2010 does not seem to show this, unfortunately.

My does, under Options, Start Up Opptions, it reads "Show the Start Screen
when this application opens". There is a check box here and it is checked by
default, so uncheck it to stop seeing the Backstage View and go straight to
a blank document. This is not referring to the Windows 8 Start Screen. Also,
it is located near the bottom of the Start uUp Options menu.

Hi,
How do you start the desktop version of Word?

Hi,

In the File tab, arrow down to options, and select General. Tab on
down
until you find Show the start screen when this program opens, and uncheck
this box. Now select OK and now the back stage view will not come up when
you open Word, just a blank document.
As for more blind friendly versions of Word, I know that the web app
is
not very accessible, but the desktop versions should be equally accessible.
On saving, I, again, open the file tab, and arrow to Save to save
changes
to a previously saved document. Or, to save a new document and assign it a
name, press enter on the Save As option, and it will say saving features, go
down to computer, and you will get an edit field to type in the name that
you want to give to the document. Then, simply tab down to the Save button
and press enter. If you do not want to save the document to the default
folder, usually the Documents folder, then in the edit field, type in the
path to where you want the document saved, such as: c:\archives\document
name.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] questions about Word 2013

Hi,

I have several questions about Word 2013. I am using windows 8.1 and
JAWS 16. How do I set it so it will open a document without having me
hit enter on the backstage view when I just want a new document
opened? Also, it says is the word app is there a more blind friendly
version? Also, having trouble saving as, it brings up a save
features dialogue box and am not sure what to do.

thanks,

Dacia
