Due to the fact that I used many keystrokes in Word from 97 to 2003, Jaws
virtual ribbons eventually annoyed me because I could not use the keystrokes I
already knew. After about 30 days of using the feature I turned it off again
so I could use those keystrokes I already knew and use the ribbons for the more
obscure things I did not use on a regular basis. It is a great idea for those
new to office or those who use it seldom but not for someone who knows even
just a few keystrokes they use regularly such as center, left and right
justify, etc. I wish we could go back to the drop down menus, true, but, we
are a minority of folks, so we have to learn to deal with the ribbons
eventually as they do supposedly make it a lot easier for mousers. They are a
Microsoft staple now, so learn to deal with them as soon as possible. They
will show up in newer versions of Windows, office products, e-mail products
etc. We may wish differently but supply and dement is the byword here, we
don't rule when it comes to public wishes or company decisions. It would be
wonderful if we had the choice to use old-style in the products themselves but
we don't so use the virtual ribbons in Jaws or those Microsoft has provided,
learn the shortcuts you use most often or use the Jaws menus or the ribbons,
which ever makes you feel most productive. I feel more productive using the
combinations I have known by heart since 1998, others may feel more comfortable
with going down through the Jaws menus and finding what they need. As I said
initially I thought it was a wonderful feature but after a month of using in in
2010 when it was introduced, I switched back to the ribbons so I could be
competitive and productive in my own way.

Jaws Help does have instructions at least to help you learn the newer ribbon
usage. I don't know all the keystrokes either but I do know several that I
used daily for the past five years and found others that I might use only once
a month or a year when needed.
Each to their own, but the ribbons, much as many of us would like them to, are
not going away.

I always use the jaws virtual ribbon, I can never remember all the keystrokes.
With the virtual ribbon it feels much like the old menus. Even though it is
new and takes a little getting used to I really have no issues with it.

That's encouraging.
