A dongle will authorize any version of JAWS, not just the portable versions.
However, to put JAWS on another person's computer, you would leave behind
traces of the JAWS program even after uninstallation. Also, if you do choose
to use the portable version of JAWS, you then also have to install the FS
Video Intercept which has to be installed and uninstalled in addition to
running the portable application from a USB drive. Using a dongle simply to
be able to run JAWS on someone els's computer is not as clean as one might
think. You never leave the computer in the exact condition that it was in
before you ran the JAWS program on it. Also, Freedom Scientific does not
just sell these dongles, you must have a just reason for needing to have
one. I, for instance, did not want a dongle, I was told by FS to either buy
one or stop using JAWS, because I had a motherboard that was going bad, and
did not know it at the time. Freedom Scientific just took notice of the
number of authorizations that I was requesting during that time period.

no, a dongle is just used to externally authorize JAWS. to run JAWS off
of a USB flash drive, there are specific downloads on the download page
on freedom scientific's site... under the previous link.

Another words does the dongle have JAWS on it to run on another pc. I know
Zoomtext has a drive that you can plug into USB and then you run Zoomtext
from that flash drive. Does Freedom have this for JAWS?

You need to purchase one, and I don't think there's any qualification
process involved. Just that you have the money.

so, do you need a reason for having one, or will fs give one to you just
for asking? my concern is that fs won't give me one because I'm in no
need of one.
if it is asked

I believe they are a very good thing to have around.

Dave, does using a dongle slow the use of the computer more than running
JAWS in demo mode?
(and a stupid question, but it's only stupid if I don't ask, right?) it
can only be purchased from FS, or can one create one by themself?
and is there a certain reason/condition that warrants the use of a
dongle?

Lenny,
You'd benefit by having a dongle for JAWS. That way, you can run JAWS on
your wife's machine as long as you need, with the dongle connected.
Costs about $40.

Subject: [Bulk] [JAWS-Users] removing safe search
I just did some searches. It is quite interesting on the manual steps to
get
rid of that thing. Fortunately there is a safe search removal tool.
Tomorrow
I will have my wife download and run it I really do not want to install
jaws on her machine. 40 minutes at a time is not long enough. .
