I'd add that once your computer restarts, you'll get a check box giving you the 
opportunity not to receive an alert about the state in which your computer is 
starting.

Hi John,

Try the following:
1. Press, Windows Key + R, to open the Run dialogue.
2. Type in, msconfig, & press enter.
3. Control + Tab, to the Start Page.
4. Arrow up / down through this list using the spacebar to uncheck anything in 
this list that you don't want starting with the computer.
5. Tab, to Okay, & press enter.  You will get a dialogue asking if you want to 
restart your computer, choose yes, & restart the computer.  The computer needs 
to be restarted for your changes to take affect.
