That is brilliant and really helpful, thanks so much.
I Will give it a try and report back to the list if anyone else is interested,
I think I may have missed the system exit sound option change in the registry I
did change a couple of the other settings.

hello;
well, there is a registry tweak you can perform for windows 8, so I would
assume that it also may work for windows 10.
I will post a link with steps, however, I caution folks to be careful, and to
backup registry before doing any change.
How To Customize Windows 8 Shutdown, Logon and Logoff Sounds

Windows 7 and previous versions let you easily customize the sounds played when
you Logon, Logoff or Shutdown your computer. You can still do it in Windows 8,
but these and other sound alerts are hidden by default. But with a simple
Registry tweak, you can get them back, and customize them to your liking.

Here you can see that Windows Logon, Logoff and Shutdown Program Events aren’t
listed in Sounds. After the Registry hack, you’ll see a lot more options listed.

Registry Hack for Sound Events

Note: Before doing any Registry tweaking, make sure you Back it Up First!

First use the
Keyboard shortcut
Windows Key+R to bring up the Run line and type: regedit and hit Enter.

Registry Editor opens up and you need to go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels under EventLabels you’ll see a list of
subfolders for different sound events for Windows 8.

Registry Editor

Scroll down the list and click WindowsLogOff. In the right pane, you’ll see the
key ExludeFromCPL. Double click on it and change the value to 0 and click OK.
so if you're a jaws user, you need to first find the WindowsLogOff now tab one
time you're in a list of 3 items, arrow down you will see/hear, ExludeFromCPL
press enter, notice the value is set to 1, backspace, and type 0 now tab okay
press enter.

WindowsLogon ExludeFromCPL

Repeat the exact same steps for the SystemExit and WindowsLogoff subfolders.
In the end, SystemExit, WindowsLogoff and Windows Logon subfolder ExludeFromCPL
key values will each be set to 0. When you’re done, close out of Registry
Editor.

SystemExit

Customize Logoff, Logon and Shutdown Sounds

Now from the Desktop, right click the Sound icon on the Taskbar and select
Sounds. Or hit Windows Key + W to bring up Setting Search and type: sounds.

Settings Search

Then select Change System Sounds under the search results.

Change System Sounds

Now you’ll see the entries in the Program Events list, and can customize them
like you would in previous versions of Windows.

Sounds

You can use this Registry tweak for other sounds that aren’t listed in Program
Events too. If you like to customize every aspect of Windows 8, now you can –
have fun!

George,
I'm sure that the sarcasm didn't help answer his question. What does it matter
why he wants the sounds, he's asking for how to get them, not how you have
yours set up.
Sorry David if this is inappropriate but can't they just answer the questions
people ask and not criticize someone's preferences?

Hi,
Window + X, is another content menu command.
The option that Kevin mention is only a power option menu near the bottom of
the drop down list.

disabling the quickstart is the wrong thing to do My Pc starts up up faster
with the quick start enable, Does the windows sound really matter?
I don't care, if the sound was a choo choo train going through a tunnel!

HTH,

Jorge

Hi Steven,
In w-10, when you do a restart of your computer, all windows sounds work
correctly.
When you do a shut down and then a start up, your computer comes on by way of
the quick start feature in w-10.
There are no windows sounds because you are not starting your system from a
cold start.
You are starting your system from a w-10 image file that was saved when you
shut down your computer.
This allows your computer to start up in about 10 seconds.
This is one of the advantages of w-10, it's quick start up time.
Yes, if you disable the quick start, you will get the traditional windows start
up sounds.
Because at that point you will be doing a cold start up, then your wait time
will be any where from 30 to 60 seconds, depending on your computer.
The new w-10 quick start is a combination of the Hibernation mode and sleep
modes combined.
I have used this quick start for about five months now, no negative impact on
Jaws at all.
Your computer is shut down, no heat or activity at all from your tower.
Simply press the power button to quick start your w-10 computer.
Your computer resumes in about 10 seconds, you are on the password or pin
log-in screen.
So, just to repeat, using the quick start in w-10 does not negatively impact
Jaws.
You are just quickly starting up your w-10 computer.
By turning off the quick start feature in w-10.
You will have a much longer start up time, and yes, the windows start up sounds
will be heard.
So, finally, this is a personal preference, no right or wrong way to have the
quick start on or off in w-10.
Personally, I have always used the w-10 quick start, this is a great time saver
when you wish to quickly get on your computer.
Again, this quick start feature does not impact Jaws in the least.
The only thing you get by turning quick start off is a longer start up time,
and the windows sounds.
So, I hope this helps you to understand the w-10 quick start feature a little
better.

Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed reaching
His goal.
Love your Neighbor as you would yourself, God will truly reward you with good
health.
Love God, your neighbor, as you love yourself, you will then be spiritually
balanced with wealth.
Love His Word that proceeds from His lips, then reflect on the heavens where
God sits.
Jim

Steven,

Only way I know is to check the box to enable start up sounds and disable the
quick start. Other than this, you will get the startup sound when restarting
but not from a cold boot.

Hi friends,

Has anyone found a way to enable the Windows 10 startup and shutdown sounds,
there seems to be a lot on the web about it but I don't seem to be making any
progress.
