Okay, try these steps to get Acrobat Reader to work:
1. Launch the Edit menu and scroll all the way down to the Accessibility
submenu and select the Set-Up Assistant dialog.
2. The Set-Up Assistant consists of 5 screens. On screen 5 of 5, the last
screen, uncheck the box labeled "open PDF documents in the web browser",
which may be checked by default.
3. Relaunch the Edit menu and this time scroll all the way down to the
Preferences dialog.
4. On the list of options, scroll down to "Security Enhanced". This is the
item right after "Security". Tab once to the box labeled "Enable Protected
Mode at Start-UP" and uncheck it.
5. Close Acrobat Reader, and now when you encounter a PDF document, JAWS
should be able to handle it.

hello there;
is there not some settings that need to be changed in the preferences menu?

David, go to the edit menu with an alt+e, then up arrow to accessibility
sub menu, right arrow to open it and down arrow to setup assistant, and
press enter.

good morning all;
one of my client's contacted me regarding adobe DC.
here's his question,
I'm having an issue with reading PDF's using Adobe. I'm working on a
research assignment for school and when I open each PDF, Jaws does not
read the text. When I try to use the OCR to read the document, it does
not.
Before opening the PDF, the following message appears on the website
used to gather the PDF's:
This PDF document opens in a frame, to view the document outside of a
frame, please change your Adobe Reader settings. To do this, open Adobe
Reader, go to help menu and select accessibility setup assistant options
then select use recommend settings and skip setup.
However, I cannot seem to be able to find where any of these options are
in the help menu through Adobe.
