That did the trick. Downloaded, installed and working. Regarding your original 
suggestion, I've posted here in the past about my inability to do a JAWS repair 
because it gets stuck at .Net Framework, a problem others have also reported. 

I owe you. Will a bad joke do?

I couldn't find a download link for the OCR feature on the FS website, so I
would suggest running a repair on Jaws.

I've noticed that OCR has failed to start on more than one online PDF
document, and it may never have loaded since I had to reinstall everything
on a new hard drive. It suggests that even though I downloaded and installed
JAWS 17, the OCR engine needs to be installed independently. Can anyone
advise what I need to do?
