May I clarify my question once again, since it has not been answered yet.

There are 2 updates in my system Tray for Windows XP. Now, if I do not wish
to install them, I cannot find a way to cancel them out of my System Tray
without installing them.
More simply, I do not wish to install certain updates at times. What are the
exact steps to get rid of them from my System Tray without installing them.
I can find no way on the tab or anywhere else to remove them without
installation. The Cancel button does nothing, so it seems.
Does this make more sense?
Thanks and have a very nice day!

Not only that, you're going to want to install them, eventually; hopefully
as soon as possible.
