Walt, good point.  I'm wondering if they each have their own sign-in on the
computer, and they had their e-mail settings set to reflect their own name,
would this work?

Okay, perhaps we need to clarify something here, since I'm getting confused.

Do both Ken and his mother use this same computer with the same e-mail
account? If so, then changing the name in the account settings will work
fine for him, but his mother will probably want to change it back if she
uses the computer for her mail.

Go to tools and pick accounts.  Look under the properties tab until you find

the display name.  Then change it to what ever you want.  Hit apply and then

OK.  Then tab over to the close button.
