I've tested the windows fire wall and believe me it's worthless. Walt, I've heard many opinions on the Window's firewall you mention below. I guess my question would be why would Microsoft include an inferior product on the XP edition of Windows? Furthermore, how does one know how well it works? If this is more "off list" write back to me that way. I also have some questions on routers. thanks Al -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Walt Smith Sent: Saturday, September 16, 2006 4:40 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [jaws-users] attachment question Those are not firewalls. Windows has its own very meager firewall that's almost worse than no firewall at all, since it gives a false sense of protection. David has at least one on his download site (he mentioned it here earlier this week) and there are many available for free around the net. Like I said, though, I much prefer a router, since you are absolutely guaranteed no pop-up windows asking you to authorize some program or other to access the network. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn Walker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 16, 2006 2:36 PM Subject: Re: [jaws-users] attachment question John, I'm on dsl with att yahoo. Does this mean I don't have a firewall? I have spam blocker and popup blocker with it. Are they firewalls? marilyn [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Visit the JAWS Users list home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the JAWS Users List send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Yahoo!
