INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREATING EMAIL NOTIFICATION SOUNDS IN OUTLOOK
.If you want messages to be sent to a particular folder for different email
messages, you will need to create a folder you want the new messages to be
sent to. To do this, while in the Inbox, do a control shift e.
Your first field will be the name of the folder, type in what you want to
name the folder.
Tab 2 times and you will have a list of the folders that already exist in
Outlook.
If you don't want this new folder to be a sub-folder, press your home key to
personal folders and press enter.
If you want this folder to be a sub-folder, find the folder you want to
create the sub-folder under and press enter on that folder name.
You don't have to create a new folder for incoming mail to play special
sounds, you can just designate your inbox as the destination folder.
Next you will need to go to the tools menu, alt t, and then arrow down to
rules, or type the letter l.
You will be placed on a new rule button. Press enter.
The next dialogue will say, start creating a rule from a template, this
should be checked by default.
Tab one time and it will say, move messages from someone to a folder.
Tab one more time and it will say, people or distribution list.
Here you will need to press your space bar and it will take you to your
address book.
You will hear, type name or select from list.
I normally just tab one time and arrow down to the person I want and then
press enter 2 times.
The first press of the enter selects the name and the second time places
that person in the field for the rule.
If the persons name isn't in your address book, you can tab to the from
field and type in the email address and press enter.
This will take you back to your rule dialogue.
Now arrow down one time and this will be the name of the folder you want the
message to go to.
Note, Jaws doesn't always speak this dialogue, so just press your space bar.
You will now be in a list of the folders you have in Outlook.
Arrow up or down to the folder you want and press enter to select the
destination folder for the new incoming mail messages.
Once again you will be placed in the rule dialogue.
Tab to next and press enter.
You will hear, select condition, on this machine only. Press enter here.
Next you will hear, what do you want to do with the message?
Arrow down to, play a sound and press your spacebar to check it.
Tab one time and arrow down a few times and then back up and it should say,
play a sound. The reason for arrowing a couple of times is because Jaws
doesn't
speak the selection when arrowing down, but does as you arrow back
up.
Press your space bar on play a sound.
This will open a dialogue where you will need to select the sound you want
to play.
This will be an edit box to type in the path and file name of the wave sound
you want. I would suggest pressing your shift tab one time and by default
you will be in the windows media sounds folder.
Use your arrow key and go to the sound you want to play.
If the sound you want isn't in this folder, then you will have to navigate
to the folder that contains that sound.
When you find the sound you want to play, press enter on the file name.
Next you will need to tab to finish and press enter.
You should hear, OK, and press enter.
You have just created a rule to move new messages to the specified folder
and to play a sound when the message arrives.
One more thing you will have to do in order for this rule to work correctly
is to go back to the tools menu and then to options. Tab to email options
and
press your spacebar.
Tab to advanced email options and press your spacebar.
Tab to, when messages arrive, play a sound and uncheck this.
If you don't do this, then the default sound assigned to new mail
notification will override the sound you assigned to the rule.
Tab to OK and press enter. Tabg again to OK and press enter and then one
more time tab to OK and press enter.
