Can you, by any chance, read your manual. I found lots of info in there.
You also can buy a numpad to plug in. That's what lots of people do.

Good luck,
Lois

Thanks Lois & Annette, but no luck in having this work as yet. The key
marked fn is between control & windows. holding this key & pressing j or k
or l does not produce numbers; in pc or jaws or invisible mode. Now where oh
where might be the scrol lock key? On top row right side there is delete,
insert, pause, print then f12. Or at least that is what keyboard help tells
me. I will grab sighted help next time he walks by. Oh yes, I have turned
off the mouse, so there are some pressable things below the mouse pad &
there is a small bar of other clickables on right side next to power on/off.
It would be very handy to get this num pad to work: I have thought of buying
a plug in if there is such a thing.
Thanks for any advice,
Cathie

Hi Cathie,

The Function key is a key that does nothing else as far as I know. On my
computer it is located on the bottom row second key from the left. It is
between the Control key and the Windows key. I have always needed help to
find this key as it is in different places on various Laptop keyboards..

Thanks Annet,
I guess my problem is finding that function key. There is the "insert" key
that  I use in different combination to preform some standard jaws actions;
insert + v jaws verbosity, insert+ 1 keyboard help on/off, insert + t title.

It is found on the top row second from right. I have played with it a bit,
but haven't gotten anywhere. So let's make sure that I'm doing what you are
suggesting:
while holding the insert key (function maybe) pres the j key and I should
hear 4. However by doing this I open the jaws menu. I'm sure this is not the
same key you are talking about. Is the function double as something else? Or
do I need sighted help to look for func? And you are also not talking about
the caps lock key are you?
Thanks,
Cathie

Hi Cathie,

I am using a Dell Inspiron 600D. On this Laptop and all of the other
laptops that I have used there has been a "Function" key. Press this and
hold it and the keys that you mentioned will change to the number pad. On
some of my past laptops, there was a way to lock this function so that you
could keep the number pad turned on. I'm sure there is a way to do this on
my current laptop, but I just haven't taken the time to learn it.

To execute a JAWS command that requires the number pad, press and hold the
function key, then activate the typical keys for the JAWS command. I'll
warn you that sometimes you have to be creative in reaching and activating
the required key combinations.

HTH,
Annette

Hi, Someone mentioned hitting a key combination that changed the active jaws
keys to a num pab on a laptop. For example, the j k l keys become 4 5 6 and
the u i o become 7 8 9 and the m , . become 1 2 3. Where might the 0 be? And
most importantwhat is the key combination to do this? Remember this is for a
laptop.
Thanks,

Cathie
