Hi Hailley, Just so you know, while Open Book is a great program, and fairly accurate, from what I've seen so far, there is a Jaws friendly way to check out any snail mail you'd like to read.
You can use the information and programs that come with your scanner, like Donny does, but I've found that a great number of scanner software, especially Epson software, is completely inaccessible to a blind user. Microsoft Office also provides a pretty usable and Jaws friendly Scanning, and reading package with their suite of products, called Microsoft Document Scanning and Imaging. These are also easy to use, and don't take nearly as many steps as Donny's way, not that I'm putting Donny's method down. If it works for him, more power to him, everyone has their own preference. Like I said, each person has their preference, and budget constraints, and last time I checked, a person is much more likely to get Microsoft Office on a brand new computer, as opposed to Open Book. I also believe that Microsoft Office is less expensive than Open Book, and you end up paying a pretty penny for Jaws when bought with Open Book. Anyway, just my opinion, for what it's worth.
