Hailley,
Stand by mode is a way to leave your computer for an extended period
of time and have it saved and protected. Once you return and want to resume
your work you must enter the user name and password you have stored for the
stand by mode (log-on) to pick up where you left off. Your work is saved in
memory. Do not confuse Stand by mode with Hibernate mode. Hibernate mode is
not protected from other people, let's say at work while you are away having
lunch, for accessing your work you left up and running.

If you need more explanation use F1 the help menu and support from the
windows start key and type in stand by mode and hibernation to really dig
into this subject.

Hi bob,

When you say to logon exactly do you mean here. I don't use any logon
procedure the computer comes up in windows. So if I do this standby mode
what would I do to get back to the desktop?
I guess jaws is still functioning?

Thanks,

Hailley

Use this option to save power, especially if you prefer to leave your
computer turned on for long periods of time. In standby mode, your computer
is available for immediate use—just log on and your desktop is exactly the
way that you left it, including any programs that you were using.

In standby mode, information in memory is not saved to your hard disk. This
means that if the computer loses power, any information that you did not
save before the computer went into standby mode is lost. It's a good idea to
save your work before putting the computer into standby mode.

I have been hearing you guys talk quite a bit about the stand by mode. What
exactly is it and what
does it do? Is this an option that you have instead of shutting down the
computer completely?

Thanks,
Donnie
