Thanks, Richard. I will be working on this all day tomorrow. From my
looking around on the net 3.4.10 might be hard to find. It's funny,
I've got zip files all the way up to 3.4.6 (even a couple of Linux
distros), but none beyond that. If you can find a copy of 3.4.10 I'd
really appreciate it. I downloaded a Windows compiler today but I
haven't played with it yet so I'm not sure I got the right thing. You
can email me at my home address if you want. cwnoah at comcast dot net

See attached. You will want to change the names in red to your own

You can download the dotnet compilers from Microsoft along with the
sdk pack. You will need that if not using the gnu compiler (I don't
recommend that one) built in. I would also load 3.4.10 which is the
most current version. It is the same licensee key as 3.4.7 and has
many bug fixes. If you cannot find the dotnet compiler or jbase
3.4.10 let me know and I will see what I can do.

I would really appreciate the list, Richard. Can you tell me more
about the loader? It's been so long since I installed it on my XP
machine I've forgotten just how I did it. Memory's the first thing
to go, you know. I'm not sure if I have any install files, and
v3.4.7 is pretty old. It fits my needs very well, though, and I'd
rather not upgrade Jbase along with an OS change. The tech guy was
interested since I told him I really had to have it. He got enough
registry entries set up to get it running after a fashion. I was
able to get a jshell, anyway.
Thanks!

If you run 32b Win 7 there are only 4-5 environmental variables to
set. The loader does the rest.
I would be very glad to send you the list I use.

I have found myself needing to migrate from XP Home 32 bit to
Windows 7 Pro 32 bit a little earlier than I had planned. I am
running Jbase 3.4.7 developer version in Universe emulation. My XP
machine motherboard was in the process of a meltdown (literally,
caps were swollen, ready to explode), but my service guy was able
to use Windows Easy Transfer and get pretty much everything off
the XP machine and onto a new one. As an aside, this new machine
isn't fast, it's sudden!
It's going pretty well, but getting Jbase working is rather
involved. Thhe biggest challenge I have right now is getting the
system and user environment variables merged into Win7. Does
anyone have a method easier than manually entering them one at a time?
Thanks,

Thanks guys for all your input. The only reason I would even
consider leaving xp is that it will probably be impossible to get
the updates if the system ever crashed. I have now found a
program downloads all the updates to cd and will install them
easily. So as long as I am not dependent on MS for those
updates, I'll be staying with xp. I have an xp install disk with
sp2, sp3 on separate cd and now all the updates on another cd so
I can install any time I choose to.

Yes it's possible and yes get a 'pro' version (avoid anything
from Microsoft with home anywhere in the name), and it's simplest
if you get a 32 bit version.
3.4.10 is the last version, but we have a few laggards so you
might try whatever version you have in hand.
Depending on which version you are currently running going to
3.4.10 may require recompilation.
Install the .NET Framework SDK V1.1 (to get the C compiler) first.

Win 7 pro 32 bit works fine.

With the upcoming demise of xp, I would like to migrate my
application to Windows 7. Now before you tell me that I
should upgrade my jbase to version 5, I must say at this
point in my life, I really don't want to go through the
learning curve and I only have one "client" left with a small
application running.
Sooooo.... Is it possible to put my jb 3.x on Win7, and if
so, what version do I need? I have "Home Premium" right now,
but think there is a "Pro" version that I should get. Is
this true? I would assume there are system variables that
must be set too, if I want to have the full capabilities of
compiling and cataloging basic programs.
