I think the main problem is the fact that you always have to shut down JBT, refine the strategy (not just parameters), run it again, wait for compilation of the whole JBT, click through the interface and, finally, run another test. If you use JBT not only for strategy testing/running but also for strategy development, it is hard time taking part of the job. I know, JBT is intended for strategy testing and running but, in fact, most of us use it also as a strategy development tool. In this case we are doing the same things over and over again. I met this problem in JST where I was trying avoid at least mouse clicks. Florent has coded a couple of key based shortcuts and the possibility to turn off all the info and warning dialogs for me. Thanks Florent, you have saved me a lot of time and clicks and you still have some free beers here. :) The situation in JBT is even worse since its GUI design is far more mouse based.
For example, in JST I am editing a strategy, alt+tab to switch windows, then I hit enter to run it, alt+o to enter optimizer, ctrlo+o to let it run - it remembers which strategy I am working on. The beginning is the same with JBT, alt+tab followed by enter. Then, putting my right hand from keyboard on mouse I have to look for the strategy I am working on in the strategy list. Then I do a right click on that strategy and select Optimize. When optimizer pops up I click optimize. It is a big difference and the steps required to switch JBT off are also more complicated. If you have to do it tens of times a day, ... it is really boring and time taking. >From my point of view it is not a good idea to put editor, IDE or even another strategy language into JBT. On the other hand it would help A LOT when we simplify the described process. It would be really nice to edit a strategy (in your regular editor) and then just hit Optimize again. For me this sounds like a dream. Strategy development, tuning, optimizing, back testing ... many tries & fails. We all have to face this part of our work.
